A child's oral health depends on good oral Hygiene. That is why it is important to keep the mouth and gums clean before teeth emerge.  Then, when the teeth do appear, it is essential to start cleaning the infant's mouth with either a clean teething ring or with a cold wet washcloth.  Then after 2-3 years of age it is important to start brushing the child's teeth with fluoride toothpaste twice a day after mealtimes, making sure that no toothpaste is ingested while doing so.  Then, once a child is around 4-5 years old, their teeth could be flossed twice a day as well.  Signs of a healthy mouth include pink gums, white teeth, and no mouth sores.
